We’re heading to goose Island State Park

Well, we have had nothing of a winter here in South Texas. Today is January 7th and it is tank top worthy weather outside. This is good in some respects and in particular for camping purposes. I love camping, I love everything about it. From the heat of the fire at night, to the cool river water during the day. We normally drive roughly 4 hours to get into what is referred to as the Hill Country and yes it is very beautiful, but we recently discovered a local camping gem, Goose Island State Park. This Goose Island is about 45 minutes away from where we live and is tucked behind trees and surrounded by water, I have lived in South Texas for nearly 14 years and hard no idea how amazing this park is, and nearly half the price of where we normally go camping. So we are saving so much money in gas, night fee’s and it is right here at our disposal.

Here at Goose Island there is a 1000 ft pier you can fish from and when in any Texas state park you do not have to have a fishing license to fish. This is great for families. The fishing is pretty decent out there and it just doesn’t get much cheaper than this. They even have very nice camp spots right on the water, with a covered table, electricity and water, the only downside to these water spots is there is a lack of trees.
A  problem we have here is that there is a major drought in Texas as we have gone through series of wild fires there is a burn ban, in fact you can not even use electric skillets for cooking. That really puts a cramp in our camping style. Without a fire, there just doesn’t seem to be much in line for camping, like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and not having jelly, it just doesn’t work. So I guess we’ll be keeping our eyes out for the burn ban to be lifted so we can go as a family and enjoy a camping adventure on goose Island.

Camping isn’t just for warm weather

Who is ready for some warmer weather? I am sure most on the east coast are wishing they were experiencing warmer weather about now! Something that may get you through this wicked cold weather is thinking about your camping plans for the year. Go ahead, take this time to plan your next camping adventure.

Just because it is cold that should not stop you from thinking about camping. Some people even like camping/Cabin in the snow, that is not for everyone but is very fun. There are various spots around the united states you can go and be perfectly comfortable in cold weather. There is something serene about camping in the snow, it is peaceful and cozy. You can check out various websites that help you locate where the best places to camp are, this takes some of the guess work out for you. These websites will even provide testimonials to let you know the pro’s and con’s of where you are thinking about staying.

Why not try something new this year? Camping does not need to be the same old thing every year. Why not try going somewhere you have never been before? Invite someone new that you have never been camping with before (just use caution, the wrong camping guest can ruin the whole trip) or even try packing new things to do while out camping. If you are thinking, I like camping just the way it is, then great! Just make sure it happens. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our everyday life and work that we forget to get out there and make new memories. This is a new year and a great way to start the new years off right is to sit down and plan your next camping adventure.
